Tracking Exercise

by belovedmick (Makati) Posted on 03/03/2013 2:43 pm

I'm new to this community. So new, in fact, that Day 1 is tomorrow. Browsing through the site, I noticed how there isn't much on exercise in the forums. Is there a way for us to track our exercise on this site - aside from the step graph?
Shouldn't our exercise - calories burned - affect how many calories we should take in while on this "diet"?

Thanks!

@jasmine23
Hi Jasmine, We have to consider our decreased food intake when engaging in a physical activity. We really want to prepare our body when trying to engage in anything new, and we have to be very careful so as not to give too much stress to our body. For your specific concern regarding this matter, I believe I have already answered it through the Personal Questions tool. ;) I hope I have helped you with this concern of yours. Keep on participating in our groups and forums and we will give our best to help you out. Okay? Keep it up! :-q

Hi, I'm a newbie as well, was wondering about the exact things mentioned by belovedmick as I walk-jog as well :) its true though there are so much things to consider about computing for calorie intake vs. calorie loss oi....
is the recommended info of 30 mins. 3x a day of exercise mentioned correct? it seems like a lot of time hi3 :-S ...
would you perhaps recommend a particular app. to download to keep track of activities?
I'm starting with the 1400kcal program how much calories through exercise should I ideally be burning to aid me on this program?

please and thanks :D

@belovedmick: Jogging is only considered a strenuous activity if you average 9 minutes for a mile of distance covered without stopping. That is quite fast. The walk-jog program you are doing can be considered as light to moderate. It still depends on how many minutes you spend walking and how many minutes you spend on actually running.

The relationship between exercise and total calorie requirement varies from person to person. There is no one advice that fits all. I recommend that you ask this question through the Personal Questions tool so you can draft a strategy with your coach.

Ack. Jogging is "strenuous activity"? I'm currently doing a walk-jog program to get me to run 5k at the end of a 9 week period. Currently in week 3. It's only 30 minutes, thrice a week. I hope that's not too much for 1200. Although I did read somewhere online before that when working out, sometimes weight loss is hampered because the person eats too little - doesn't eat enough. How will I know if I'm eating too little? And can this really slow down my weight loss?

Hi belovedmick!

Dr. Jean-Michel Cohen does not require you to do strenuous exercises while on his diet. Aerobic exercises like swimming, jogging, brisk walking and/or cycling for 30 minutes 3 times a day are recommended. As for the number of steps, better if you reach a total of 10,000 steps a day.

Since you are in a low calorie diet program, do not go beyond what your body can tolerate. Stop when it is deem necessary. Listen to your body and always hydrate with lots of water.

:-q The recommended exercise routines available in the Exercises page. To view the page, go to Coaching sessions > Exercises. Here is the link:

*-:) Here is the list of common activities and the corresponding estimate of calories burned per hour of activity:

Light Activity: 240 calories/hour for women
Cleaning house, cooking

Moderate Activity: 370 calories/hour for women
Walking briskly (3.5 mph)

Strenuous Activity: 580 calories/hour for women
Jogging (9 min/mile)

Very Strenuous Activity: 740 calories/hour for women
Running (7 min/mile)

;)
